What It Is: Widely-Read Weekly News Journal

Despite its title, The Economist doesn’t just focus on economic issues. It presents world affairs (yes, primarily from an economic perspective) in a straightforward manner that makes complex subjects easy to grasp. It packs a tremendous amount of content into each weekly issue, and is widely read on both sides of the Atlantic. The Economist is serious, very serious–you might need to go watch some cable news after reading just to balance yourself out with some tales of Britney Spears’ exploits. Well, on second thought, maybe that’s going a little too far.

Why is matters:

The Economist is a world-class publication of record that will keep you up-to-date on issues of importance. If it’s covered here, chances are it’s something could impact your life in some way–even if it’s just in conversation. Reading The Economist is a surefire way to stay abreast of big-picture issues and increase your overall knowledge and ability to converse on a wide range of topics.

You can access The Economist in both hard copy or online at www.economist.com.
